I got my flu shot today. It’s my first high dose flu shot, which in some ways is good and in some ways bad. It’s good to have the extra protection. Although the down side is, I am officially old.
But that’s okay. I figure part of the reason I got to this point is because of medical science, so I’ll stick with them if they can keep me going.
It hasn’t been that long ago that I never used to bother with a flu shot. I’d just take my chances, but I didn’t seem to come down with anything serious. I’d get the odd one, if there was a particularly bad strain going around that year, but otherwise I just didn’t bother.
When I started looking after older family members, I figured I should probably make it a regular thing. It was more for them than me, at least in my mind. I just didn’t want to take a chance on passing something on to someone who maybe couldn’t handle it. Now it’s become a regular thing.
I have to admit, I like the online booking thing. There is still the drawback that someone booking by phone or someone else booking the same appointment time who is moving just a bit faster than you can steal you time before you finish, which makes you start all over again. But that doesn’t seem to happen quite as often as when they first set it up.
But I like the fact you don’t have to go to a vaccine clinic and wait in line for hours, or book a doctor’s appointment. It does seem to make the process easier and maybe a little less painful.
And hopefully keeps me from getting sick over the winter. Cause there’s only so much daytime TV I can take.
