I have decided it would be a good idea to have a Plan B. Just in case Philippe decides to show up for Thanksgiving dinner. We have enough to set another place at the table, but post-tropical storms are not always dependable guests.
A few years ago, there was a nasty wind storm on Christmas Day that decided to mess with dinner plans. We managed to work our way around it, finding people still with power to heat things up and using the wood stove.
Although that was one of those times I failed to properly check the batteries for flashlights. It was Christmas, you would think batteries would be everywhere. And they were. In the wrong sizes. I could run kids toys for days, but not any of the flashlights I could find.
So we were left making gravy on the wood stove in the dark, lighting our way with candles. We had plenty of candles, but holding a candle over a pot of gravy as you try to thicken it doesn’t work the best. The gravy got thick. But it got a bit lumpy. From the candle wax was dripping into the gravy as we tried to figure out what we were doing.
It was an adventure I really don’t care to repeat. So… Plan B.
I have printed of instructions for how to barbecue a turkey. So I will be ready, just in case. I also bought gas for the old camp stove that I think I last broke out for New Years Eve in 2000. You know, when that date was going to shut down the world. I was ready. But the world did not end.
So I’m hoping my plans will work the same for this weekend. I have Plan B. I am ready for what comes. So I’m hoping, because I am ready, I won’t need Plan B. That’s usually the way it works. So I’m hoping all my plans will not be needed.
But if they are…
