I thought I was pretty close to ready. It’s not like we haven’t had a bit of wind and rain over the summer, so with Lee making his way in our general direction, I was thinking I already had things pretty much under control. Then I went out to check my tomato plants last night and took a look around.
First, it was the tomatoes themselves. A couple are patio type plants, so they are in pots. I probably should find a spot for those so they don’t blow away. And, how many of those chairs do we actually use? And all those little tables. Do we really need all of them? Not to mention the barbecue.
The more I looked, the more I realized how not ready I was.
I always hate that day in the fall when I have to put everything away. It seems like such a chore to get things tucked away for the winter. This is still a chore, but for some reason it doesn’t feel quite so… final.
Some of these things will likely make their way back outside after this weather system passes by. I’m still not ready to pack up the grill for the season just yet. And there will still be a day or two we will want to sit outside. So getting ready for a storm is probably more work than putting things away for the winter. But that’s okay. The season isn’t over yet.
But I still have a lot of things to gather up and put out of harms way. More than I realized. But it all will have to go before too long anyway. Might as well get a start on it.
