In spite of the fact that out population seems to be increasing rather quickly, Canada is still a fairly small market when it comes to huge companies. And some of those companies seem to be making that pretty clear to us.
On top of things announced earlier this year, like Delissio frozen pizza, Bugles, and Stouffer’s microwave dinners soon leaving store shelves, yesterday Kimberly Clark announced the impending end of another iconic brand, Kleenex facial tissue.
While the others are merely brand names, the Kleenex name has gone beyond that. It’s what most of us call facial tissue. It’s one of those names, and I’m sure you can think of others, that has their name apply to an entire category. But due to what the company called “unique complexities” in the market, they will no longer be selling their facial tissues in Canada.
This seems to be the only product that will no longer be coming our way from the company.
While it seems a bit disappointing, there are a lot of similar products on the market. And honestly? I’ll still be calling them Kleenex, even though the brand name is no longer on the box.
Truth be told, I’ll miss Bugles a whole lot more than Kleenex. There are plenty more facial tissues out there. And at least we still have ketchup chips and Smarties, which other countries can’t say. So that’s some small consolation.
But it’s still almost enough to make you cry. But you better not. No Kleenex to help dry your eyes.
