I swear people online will argue about just about anything. I happened to stumble on a raging debate about whether or not you should take your shoes off when going into someone else’s house. Or whether you should demand that people take their shoes off when coming into yours.
To me, it doesn’t seem like much of a debate. If I walk into a house and there is a pile of shoes by the door, I’ll take mine off. No big deal. However, for the most part, we leave our outdoor shoes on while indoors. Although during the winter, if there is snow outside, outdoor footwear will come off at the door. And during the summer, outdoor footwear comes off as soon as possible because I’d rather be in bare feet.
I know there can be cultural situations. Some cultures remove footwear before going inside. It’s a standard thing for some people. Other do it to try to keep their floors clean. With a dog and a couple of cats, that seems to be a lost cause around my house, but I will respect other’s wish to do it.
It doesn’t seem like much of a debate to me. The online debate was going on about how you should give people a heads up so they can bring indoor shoes with them, or that it wasn’t polite to demand that others take their shoes off. To me it’s just a case of your house, your rules. You want shoes off, I can handle that. But if you come to my house, you can leave them on if you like. No big deal.
But as with most things, everyone seemed to have an opinion.
Nothing is simple these days.
