Last week I asked how people ate corn after I saw a guy eat a cob of corn, cob and all, by starting at one end and just munching his way to the other. It was in a corn eating contest and I suppose it might work for speed. But before you get to the eating, you have to cook it.
There are many different ways top cook corn. A quick Google search brought up several methods. One website presented eight ways to cook corn, and I think they may have missed a few. Although most of them are just variations on a couple different methods. Boiling or grilling.
You can boil corn in salted water, boil it in milk and butter, boil it in a butter bath and even boil it in your instant pot. Some will even fill a cooler with boiling water and boil it that way.
You can grill it with the husks on, grill it with the husks off, grill it in foil or maybe even roast it. You can also cook it in the microwave.
From reading some of the reviews on cooking methods, most seemed to prefer the simple method of boiling in salted water for five minutes. That seemed to be the favourite. Although grilling with the husks on also got a lot of positive mentions.
I like grilling, but I like to boil it first, then just char it a bit on the barbecue. It seems to bring out the sweetness somehow. Or maybe I just think it does.
But I’ve been seeing fresh corn start to appear in stores. Time to put some of those methods to the test.
