I have mentioned before that I like to check the various days set aside to celebrate things during the year. It’s always the day for something, usually several things. One of the things being celebrated today is… “Lumpy Rug Day”. It’s a day to appreciate rugs and maybe replace or repair the ones that have too many lumps.
I don’t know a lot about rugs. We have had them in our house. Some times they change. One rug goes away and another will appear in it’s place. I’m not sure exactly how this happens. It’s one of those things that seems to take place when I’m not around.
Rugs do keep your feet from coming in contact with a cold floor, and some of them do feel quite nice underfoot. In my house, they also are really good at collecting any excess pet hair and crumbs from treats. But I tend to not take a lot of notice of them. I just know they are there.
At the moment we have a house with carpet. Wall to wall from one end to the other. There is even carpet in the bathroom and in the kitchen, which my wife thinks is just all kinds of wrong and has started making sounds about replacing it. Some of it is getting a little worn, so she does have a point. But it might be one of those things we have to think about for a few years.
In some areas, there could be hardwood below the carpet. It would be nice to bring it back, but I see no reason to rush into anything.
But we have had a few discussions about what should and should not be on a floor in various situations. I’ll agree that carpet is not ideal in a bathroom. Maybe not a kitchen either. Hardwood or tile or some sort of laminate might be better. Maybe toss a rug over some of it. A non-lumpy rug, at least to start. That would give me a reason to pay more attention to Lumpy Rug Day.
Although I’m not convinced I really need to.
