I’m starting to wonder why I have a land line telephone. It sits there and occasionally I check for messages, but I don’t use it much other than that. Although it sometimes comes in handy to talk on that phone when I’m looking things up on my cell phone. But I rarely get calls on it.
The calls that I do get are either mostly spam or scams. The occasional store that long ago asked for my number that I was silly enough to give them and they still continue to call to remind me about sales on things I don’t really care about. Most of those are robo-calls. Or the scam callers. No, my Amazon delivery is not stuck at the border, there have been no charges on my credit card, and if anyone I know has been arrested I may consider sending a lawyer but I’m sure not sending cash.
And even most of the scams are robo-calls now. In some ways I miss messing with people who are trying to mess with me. Like those guys from Windows who want to fix my computer. I haven’t heard from them for ages. Maybe they’re having computer problems of their own.
Those are about the only people I talk to on my land line. Pretty much everyone else I know calls my cell number.
So I wonder why the land line is there. Habit, I guess. But I wonder if I really need it.
There could be rare occasions when cell phones might not work, but those are very rare and becoming even more so. So just in case, the phone still sits there. Once or twice a week I remember to check for messages, but there’s usually not much there.
Maybe the time has come to cut at least that one cord.
