It’s one of those things that is pretty much an automatic. I just don’t forget. Well, at least not that. I forget a lot of things, but not that. I can’t remember the last time it happened. And it didn’t even happen this time, not really.
It was a pretty nice weekend. I spent quite a bit of time out side enjoying that sunshine. Maybe it was a little cool, but otherwise it was rather nice. And since it was so nice, I made sure I put sunscreen on. At least on my face. Since it was a bit on the cool side, there wasn’t that much of me showing, other than my face. And I knew better.
But after we cooked up a few burgers for the family and were getting ready to clean up, I stuck my hands in hot water. I suddenly realized there was a part of my body with exposed skin that I had not covered with sunscreen. My hands.
I never really though much about them. They tend to be exposed pretty much all the time, but it’s been a while since they were uncovered in the sun. So they got a bit toasted. You can notice if you really look hard. But it is hard to see. They don’t tend to lose much of their tan from the year before, because they’re always out there in the sun. But first thing in the spring, they can still get a bit sunburned.
Thankfully, it was a good reminder. It wasn’t a real bad burn, and I’m pretty glad I remembered to put sun screen on my face. But without my arms being exposed, I never really thought about the backs of my hands. So it was a gentle reminder to make sure I use sunscreen.
That sun is pretty strong. Even when temperatures might be a bit on the cool side.
