Easter has come and gone. Although I still co0me across the occasional hidden bit of chocolate that was missed. I tend to claim those as my own. Even the memory of the ham has now faded.
It was a fine ham. It fed us for probably one too many meals after the day was over. Then it goes to the place all good hams go to rest. At least in my mind. That being the soup pot.
We don’t have ham often, but when we do I really look forward to that part. The split pea soup that comes after the actual ham itself. I do like a good bowl of pea soup. I know there may be some who claim you also need dough boys or dumplings, but I’ve always been just as happy with a good tea biscuit with my soup. But the soup itself tends to lead to some discussion.
What peas are best in a pea soup?
There really isn’t a lot of difference, at least in my mind. They have a similar taste. The green ones may taste a bit more like peas. And they say they are a bit sweater. The yellow ones having a bit more mild and earthy taste.
There are those in my house who claim yellow is the way to go. There are also those who insist it must be green. I really don’t see a lot of difference, but it seems to lead to a lively discussion every time.
I just want a bowl of soup.
