I get impatient this time of year. I blame golf.
Not that I play golf a lot. I don’t. I play occasionally, but not on a regular basis. But I do watch it on TV a bit, especially this time of year. It’s just nice to see greener grass and flowers and hear all the birds. Which I know is a bit strange. Most people who watch golf are probably watching the shot. I do that too. But I also listen to the birds.
For instance, there seems to be a lot of cardinals around Augusta National Golf Course where the Master’s is played. They’re hard to miss from their calls and those microphones they have on the course pick them up very well.
And it’s also nice to see the foliage. Check out what flowers might be in bloom at the various courses in slightly warmer climes.
Since the Master’s was a couple weeks ago now, and I spent some time checking out the magnolias and azaleas and other things were in bloom, I have been impatiently waiting for them to start showing themselves around here. They shouldn’t be too far behind. Well, maybe a few weeks difference in the weather.
I’ve been making do with the few snowdrops and crocuses that have popped up. Other early things like daffodils and tulips aren’t too far away.
I’ve been cheering on the forsythia, but so far it isn’t suite ready to bust out the yellow. Mine has some pretty serious buds, but hasn’t quite gotten that yellow glow yet. But it won’t be long.
I noticed yesterday that those couple warm days at the end of last week had the magnolia getting a bit more serious about blooming. It still doesn’t seem quite sure about going ahead, but it is giving it some serious thought. Enough that it is starting to produce colour, just not quite full on flowers just yet. Although it will probably only be a couple of days.
We are starting to hit that point when things start to bloom.
