Last year, we got the grandchildren into colouring Easter eggs. Just a few plain coloured eggs. Nothing fancy. But there are a lot of ways to get fancy with the eggs, and it may be time to move more into that this year.
A quick check online and you can find a number of different ways to boost your egg colouring game.
You can use shaving cream or whipped cream. Create a bed, then use food colouring to create a design in the cream. Then you roll the eggs to pick up the design.
Apparently, you can also use old silk ties. Well, you could use new silk ties, too, but that could cause problems. Old ones might be better. But from what I have read, you take a 100% silk tie, wrap it around an egg and boil it that way. The colour and design transfer from the tie to the egg. But it’s probably not going to do the tie much good, which is why I suggested an old one.
You can use tape to create designs, then dip your eggs in colouring. Or wax. Or a number of different things.
I’ve seen baking soda mentioned that creates a neat effect. Put food colouring on rice and put the eggs in the rice for a while seems to create an interesting effect. Tissue paper can be anther option.
There seem to be a whole lot of ways to dye eggs. And probably make a mess of the kitchen. And spend an afternoon having fun. But there are a lot of different options. I might have to try one or two.
