I’ll admit it. I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole today on the internet. I didn’t mean to. I’m not sure why it even got my attention.
I noticed something about vegetable peelers. Something about the best one, so I got curious. I avoided the clickbait and did a search on my own. I’ll admit it was a bit of an eye opener.
The internet is a strange and wonderful place. My search for the best vegetable peelers brought in lots of results. One promised a list of the ten best vegetable peelers. That was interesting.
While there were several actual kitchen utensils as part of the list, number one and number ten were the same thing. They were a movie called Peelers that seemed to be about zombie strippers. Not only that, but it seemed to be in some format that would not play in video machines in much of the world. And while I do enjoy a good zombie movie, this isn’t going to get the skin off my potato. So it’s not what I’m looking for.
What I was really looking for was to find out if there were opinions on whether a straight peeler or a Y peeler might be best. Might seem strange, but when you have something like Google sitting in front of you, you can ask silly questions like that. I’m not sure there were any great differences noted between the two styles.
I happen to have at least one of each. I prefer the straight peeler. I just like the weight and design of it. But they seemed pretty equal. There are good and bad ones of each type.
There was also an electric one on the list. You just stick your fruit or vegetable on the machine, hit the button and it spins while the peeling is removed. Entertaining to watch, but I don’t really need another small appliance on my counter. Sort of running out of room in that department. Actually, I ran out of room about the time of the bread maker, but long before the air fryer. But that’s another story.
But there didn’t seem to be any sort of great agreement on the best peeler. It depends on what the individual likes. Although I’d probably stay clear of the zombies.
