Our province’s Minister of Mental Health and Addictions is praising a brand-new program.
The free ‘Access Wellness’ service offers hour-long counselling sessions for people dealing with mental-health concerns.
Brian Comer says Nova Scotians can talk to registered therapists.
“It can help general mental health issues like anxiety, depression and substance use. We are really hopeful that Nova Scotians use this service,” says Comer.
It can be done online or by phone, and in-person options are also available in Halifax, Sydney, New Glasgow and Kentville.
Comer says he’s toured the province on this issue.
“We heard about a general lack of access in mild to moderate supports for people before they get sick enough to go to the hospital. I think this new program should help those people.”
The province is spending 2.3 million dollars a year for the service.
Starting today, Nova Scotians can book a free one hour session of supportive counselling through the Province’s new Access Wellness service. Minister Brian Comer was joined by clinicians and representatives of @TELUSHealth and @HealthNS at the launch of the service in Sydney. https://t.co/sgwCCiNWY3 pic.twitter.com/T2eV1XisIE
