I don’t really consider myself overly thrifty. I don’t hang out in thrift stores for hours on end going through the bins. I don’t hit up every yard sale in the area. But I don’t like to spend money if I don’t have to. So I will repurpose a gift bag.
Really, I like to think of it as a more environmentally friendly option, which makes me feel slightly less cheap. Instead of using brightly coloured paper to wrap presents, I try as much as possible to use gift bags. The paper tends to get used once, then ripped and torn to shreds in the heat of the unwrapping of the presents, It’s used once and done. While the gift bag can be used many times.
I know there are people who will try to save the wrapping paper to be used again. The carefully lift the tape and fold the paper to be stored for later use. Probably to be put somewhere for safe storage, never to be seen again. Because some of those same people will also see wrapping paper on clearance after Christmas is over and stock up on enough for the next six Christmases.
But the gift bag is so easy. Although it does have the same problem as the carefully stored reused paper. Remembering where you put them from last year.
Now some of them do have tags, but those are easily removed and replaced with fresh tags.
But you just take the old bag, insert the new present, stuff in some tissue paper perhaps, change the tag and you’re good to go. And if you were smart, you left last year’s tissue paper in there so you can reuse that too.
Far more economical and you’re reusing an item. It seems like the thing to do.
