I think age is actually catching up with me. I try to keep ahead of it, but it always seems to find a way.
The last couple days, my shoulders have been sore. It took me a while to figure it out. I think it may be because I dared pick up a rake on Sunday afternoon.
I didn’t do much with it. I wasn’t even really serious about raking. I was just looking for something to do on Sunday afternoon. It was a nice day and I just wanted to spend some time outdoors.
And it’s not like I’ve spent the entire winter not doing any physical activity. I seemed to find myself pretty much every weekend with a shovel in my hands, moving snow from one place to another. So picking up a rake and sort of waving it at the ground didn’t seem like the sort of thing that would cause me pain. And as I say, I wasn’t really doing much. Just moving a few stray sticks from one place to another.
But for some reason, my shoulders took exception to me doing that. So maybe I need to do some exercise before I get some exercise. Even a few stretches, just to give my body a bit of a warning that I’m going to do something that it has often done is past years and shown no sign of caring.
It seems that with the passage of time, my body does care more about what I do to it. You know. You stand up and it sounds like you’re making popcorn. Or bend over and decide maybe you don’t really want to straighten up after all. It seems to happen more and more often. I guess maybe it’s time to try to find ways to avoid it.
So if you happen to see me on my lawn, doing what appears to be exercise, I’m just trying to avoid injury from doing things that aren’t really exercise.
