A big day for Shubenacadie Sam who is predicting there will be six more weeks of winter.
She gave her annual prediction on Wednesday morning.
When the door to her little home at Shubenacadie Wildlife Park opened at 8 a.m. she was quick to see her shadow and scurried back into her burrow.
According to folklore if a groundhog sees its shadow there will be six more weeks of winter.
There were no public events for Groundhog Day at the park this year, but the event was live-streamed on the wildlife park’s Facebook page.
Meantime, the South Shore’s Lucy the Lobster also saw her shadow, predicting a long winter too.
Shubenacadie Sam was the first groundhog to make a prediction, about an hour before other groundhogs in Ontario and the eastern United States.
