A local animal shelter is hoping to sell out of tickets for its annual fundraiser for the second year in a row.
The S.H.A.I.D. Tree Animal Shelter lottery became the main fundraising for the shelter after COVID-19 caused the cancellation of it’s yearly yard sale in 2020.
S.H.A.I.D. Manager, Kelly Inglis said proceeds from the lottery ticket sales go directly to the animals in its care.
“Every dollar goes towards these animals,” said Inglis. “Their vet care, flea treatments, spays, neuters, and everything they need to be adopted into a loving forever home.”
Inglis added that the shelter is spending more then usual this year due to an explosion in the population of kittens over the summer.
“We are facing more vet bill than ever with all of the spays, neuters, and feline leukemia testing,” explained Inglis. ” For example in October we spayed or neutered 97 kittens.”
Inglis said that in a normal year the shelter takes in nearly 300 cats and kittens, but this year they are on track to have taken in over 500 by the end of December.
She said the lottery draw is happening on December 4th at 1p.m. and added there are still a lot of tickets left to purchase.
The S.H.A.I.D Tree Animal Shelter lottery grand prize is $25,000, with a second prize of a 2021 Honda ATV.
