A special groundbreaking was held on Tuesday by the The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg in celebration of the new Stonemont Retirement Lifestyle Community.
The new community will include 150 all inclusive and supportive apartments, a 90-suite seniors apartment complex as well as a large dining room, lounge area, community rooms and theatre, a pool and fitness center, a beauty salon and spa, and more.
MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar Getson said the new community will give seniors more options for housing.
“The housing stock in our municipality has just about been depleted at this point,” said Getson. “I believe there is unlimited need at the moment.”
Getson added that they are working to prepare the land this fall to begin building in early spring.
“Anyone who is seeing the activity across from the Best Western in Osprey Village, that is the site of the assisted living complex,” explained Getson. “The apartment complex would be closer to Nathan Cirillo Drive, but on the same parcel of land that they are working on now.”
The Stonemont Retirement Lifestyle Community is expected to open in the fall of 2023 and create more than 40 full time and part time jobs in the area.
