All provincial ferries will now be free permanently.
The province suspended fees on all its ferries in March 2020, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are seven provincial ferries:
-LaHave, Lunenburg County
-Tancook Islands, Lunenburg County
-Little Narrows, Victoria County
-Englishtown, Victoria County
-Petit Passage, Digby County
-Grand Passage, Digby County
-Country Harbour, Guysborough County
Ferry fees had ranged from $7 for personal vehicles to $10 for commercial trucks.
Officials says permanently eliminating fees will reduce the financial burden on local residents and visitors.
Only about 12 per cent of the ferries’ operating cost had been covered by passenger fees.
