The Region of Queens is looking for nominations for their ‘Ripple Effect’ volunteer recognition program.
The program recognizes individuals in Queens who take the time to make the community a brighter place.
The name of the ‘Ripple Effect’ volunteer recognition program was inspired in 2015 by a Liverpool resident who was offering to teach children to swim free of charge in her spare time.
She started up the free swimming program called ‘The Ripple’.
Based on what she was doing for her community, it was decided that the name, ‘The Ripple Effect’ would be the perfect name to help recognize volunteers in the community.
Region of Queens Municipality Mayor, Darlene Norman stated that without the dedication of volunteers, community’s would have a very different look.
“Our communities would look very stark and naked if it were not for volunteers that are putting on festivals and events, food bank drives,” explained Norman.” You just think about what we would not have if we didn’t have volunteers.”
She added that all types of volunteering can be nominated no matter how big or how small.
“If someone knows of some young child in the neighbourhood that picks up someone’s mail,” says Norman. “Just any act of kindness and volunteering to help an individual, or an organization, that’s what ‘The Ripple Effect’ is all about.”
Norman says that nominees will get recognition on the Region of Queens social media pages, and will also have the chance to be randomly chosen to move on to the provincial recognition award program.
