I grew up in the city during my school years and they didn’t have school buses.
But we lived a good distance from the schools so it was a long walk – uphill both ways. I joke but Dartmouth, nicknamed the City Of Lakes should have been called the City Of Hills.
So I’ve never been on a school bus. Was I lucky or did I miss out on that experience?
Also, because no one was bussed, my elementary and junior high schools didn’t have cafeterias or school lunch programs.
I didn’t experience the school cafeteria until high school where I learned to be a fairly good card player.
The cafeteria didn’t have prepared food – (You brought your own brown bag sandwich) so I never got to experience Pizza Friday or Burger Day or anything like that.
I think that lack of school buses is also the reason we never had a field trip – anywhere! I’m not sure where they would have taken us but it would have been fun to get out of school for the day.
Did you miss out on anything during your school days? Field trips, bus rides or pizza day? Perhaps a school trip out of the province?
