A Lunenburg County business owner is unhappy with the new government funding.
Earlier this week, the Small Business Impact Grant was announced which provides up to $5000 to Nova Scotia businesses impacted by pandemic restrictions.
Dawn Ewing, Owner of Diner 325 in Wileville said the latest restrictions have forced the diner to close its doors temporarily.
“When we tried to do take-out, it didn’t become financially feasible. It didn’t even pay me to turn my lights on or my propane,” Ewing explained.” When your going from making hundreds of dollars a day to like fifty dollars per day it’s a lot.”
She said receiving a one-time grant of 15 per cent of their sales revenue for one month simply isn’t enough.
” That could leave me with two or three hundred dollars to qualify for. I wouldn’t qualify for the five thousand and even if I did, that wouldn’t pay my rent or my power.”
Ewing believes the government needs to re-evaluate their plan so more small business owners are able to stay afloat.
She says the government needs to have different types of funding for different types of businesses because a one size fits all solution isn’t working.
