It didn’t really come as a total surprise. I knew they existed. I just hadn’t thought much about them. But for some reason, the Proboscis Monkey started popping up a lot in the last few days.
It’s one of those situations of being so darn strange (some might even say ugly) that they are cute. Most monkeys have bit of a cute factor, but when you have a long floppy nose that just does not seem to belong on your face, it becomes somehow endearing. At least to me.
I first started seeing them pop up on some sort of “save the animals” type commercial on television. The problem with this is, the proboscis monkey is so different looking it really made an impression. I was watching the funny critters so much, I have no idea which group was looking for my money. I’ve seen the commercial a few times. Love the monkeys. Have no idea who the commercial is for.
Then last night I was watching a nature documentary on Borneo, and there they were again. Monkeys with big noses.
I have no idea what it is about these things, but I find them quite endearing. It’s just something about that nose that seems to be just randomly stuck on the face of an otherwise normal monkey. Or maybe it’s the fact that I am getting older, and as humans age, our ears and noses seem to keep growing. Maybe they somehow remind me of myself… although I tend to picture myself thinner.
I think this is my new spirit animal. I mean… just look at that face.
