I try to stay positive through everything that 2020 is throwing at us, but some days my strength wanes and I can get a little vindictive towards the year’s events so far.
On that note, I was asked if 2020 was a food, what would it be? I pondered several answers but discarded each one for various reasons.
The first thing that came to mind was the wildly expensive Durian fruit, considered to be one of the stinkiest, most foul-smelling foods known to man and beast, but then realized that in spite of it’s foul odour it’s thought to be one of the tastiest things in the world. Not 2020 by a long shot.
Next on my list was fried liver. Awful stuff. But then I remembered having some pretty fine tasting liver and onions at pubs over the years. Somehow pubs know how to make liver taste good.
I was going to compare the year to one of my least favourite veggies – parsnips. They’re a pale imitation of a carrot in my books. But then I recalled having some pretty tasty candied parsnips at one Christmas dinner.
Which led me to brussels sprouts. For some obscure reason they’re a Christmas dinner tradition and I have to try to eat one or two every Christmas dinner in spite of the fact that they are my most disliked food. I’ve had them drenched in gravy, candied, flavoured with cranberry and nothing can make me like them.
They are the perfect symbol of 2020 so far.
What food signifies 2020 for you?
