A Lunenburg County Agency is offering a convenient meal solution for seniors and people with disabilities.
VON’s Frozen Favourites offers 15 different frozen meals including traditional comfort foods like pot roast, meatloaf and Shepherd’s Pie.
Now, the United Way of Lunenburg County has partnered with VON to increase the use of their meal plan.
The service will help those who are confined to their house because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Seniors who take advantage of the plan benefit from getting balanced meals, but more importantly the person delivering the product gets a visual of the senior for a wellness check, said Michael Graves, coordinator of the United Way of Lunenburg county.
“If they are in distress or there is an issue they can get the help they need,” he said.
“That was a real interest to us at the United Way because many seniors have had changes in service and are not getting seen as frequently. If they are at higher risk and are isolated we want those people to be seen.”
After receiving a few private donations, VON decided to reduce the price of each meal from $7 to $5 for the month of May, said Kathy Thomas, Program Coordinator for Community Support Services of VON Lunenburg.
“The meal program has been here for over 15 years and we continue to try and grow the program,” she said.
