The town of Bridgewater is gearing up for its annual Christmas celebration.
The Christmas on the LaHave parade hits the streets Saturday for an evening of Christmas songs, shining lights and a fireworks display.
Michael Graves, chairperson of Christmas on the LaHave, says the parade is a popular draw for hundreds of families.
While it’s great to get out and see it first hand, he said they also think about those who can’t make that trip.
“We’ve been filming the parade for years now, and we air it on Eastlink TV, but we’ve also been burning seven or eight DVD’s each year to bring out to the local nursing homes,” he said.
“It just gives them a chance to enjoy the parade as well. We want to make Christmas on the LaHave as accessible as possible, but there are people in those nursing homes who just can’t get out to it.”
Safety is also a concern during any public event, but Graves said they have precautions in place to make the event as safe as possible.
“We don’t allow parking along the parade route, so that is a huge plus to safety right there,” he said.
“It just provides for a larger, open area for the floats to go. We also have volunteers and police officers who walk with the parade floats who are looking out for children.”
New to this year’s celebration is the new Christmas lights throughout town, now dawning a Christmas-y red glow, a new light tree and lit Christmas bulbs on Candy Cane lane, which runs behind the TD Bank, and the return the “best decorated house” contest.
Information on all Christmas on the LaHave activities and contests can be found on the Town’s website and Facebook page.
