The iconic Lunenburg Academy is getting close to $600,000 to continue improving its front facade and make accessibility improvements to the building that’s been standing since 1895.
South Shore – St. Margaret’s MP, Bernadette Jordan, announced the funding Thursday.
The financial commitment is in addition to $500,000 that was announced by the federal government in June.
Jordan says the money will also help create a heritage classroom.
“This funding will help them put that in place, which will be a big driver for people who come to the Academy who want to see what it was like as a working school.”
Jordan also announced $65,000 to one of the Academy’s tenants.
She says the Lunenburg Academy of Musical Performance will use the money for professional arts training.
“It is actually the first time anywhere east of Montreal has received this funding,” says Jordan.
“It is pretty exciting to see some money coming to Atlantic Canada, to Nova Scotia, and in particular Lunenburg that has never been here before.”
