In what is becoming a summer tradition, the Bridgewater Barracudas are once again provincial swim team champions.
Bridgewater hosted the Summer Swimming Provincial Championships this weekend at the O’Reagan’s Subaru Outdoor Pool.
The team extended their Overall Top Team win steak to nine years, something co-chair Blair Lipsett says is the result of the culture the club has built.
“We, I believe, have a very good philosophy around keeping swimming, not just competitive but fun as well. We really view the Cudas as a community, a family.”
Adam Culbert was also recognized as provincial Assistant Coach of the Year for his work with the Cudas.
Lipsett says Culbert exemplifies what the Barracudas program is all about.
“There’s always athletes that if they don’t finish first, they’re not happy. Adam was just happy to be able to, from my perspective, compete, but also encourage others to do their best as he tried to do himself.”
All Stars for the Bridgewater Barracudas were Nakayla Wight in the 13-14 Girls, Jonathan Haas, Lucas Sangster and Nathan Fougere in 17-18 Boys.
The Lunenburg Mariners who were competing in the Small Team category, picked up the Most Improved Team honours from last year’s event.
Lipsett also wants to acknowledge to a couple of groups for their involvement in both the event and for the ongoing support of the Barracudas swim team.
He says the Town of Bridgewater and the Province of Nova Scotia have provided much needed infrastructure upgrades to the pool.
Lipsett also wants to acknowledge all the volunteers who gave of their time both at the event and throughout the year.
