Nova Scotia’s Seniors Minister says more seniors will be able to stay at home longer as a result of a program expansion.
It was announced this week by Leo Glavine on behalf of Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey.
The province has broadened the criteria under the Caregiver Benefit Program.
It’s been expanded to include those with very high and moderate care needs.
Leo Glavine says the program is for family members or friends.
“Those who can assist, not necessarily just seniors, but those who require long-term care for physical and mental disabilities. This program started in 2009 and it’s the first and remains the only program of its kind in Canada. Manitoba does provide a tax credit for care for loved ones.”
There are currently 1,979 caregivers enrolled in the program.
The expansion is effective immediately.
Glavine says is the first phase in government’s plan to increase access to the program.
