A pop up shop is working to clean up around the edges of Lunenburg.
Oddfellows Barbershop opened last week on Lincoln Street.
Owner Joel Martell has been operating a shop out of Proskates in Halifax and decided he’d like to have an adventure.
“It just seemed like a really good idea to come down here and spend a summer and see what it was going to be like and, it’s beautiful. We’re 48 hours into it and I’m in love.”
Originally from Mahone Bay, Martell fondly remembers coming to Lunenburg as a youth to skateboard.
In fact, prior to becoming a barber, he spent time filming skateboarders for videos.
The photos on the wall of his shop display his love for the sport, but it was a passion for hair styling that led him to leave it behind.
He compares the new shop to a working holiday.
“When you like your job it definitely is a holiday. I have a lot of energy. The shop in Halifax is going really great and I told myself that it would be a really cool project to come down and work.”
Martell will be splitting his time between Halifax and Lunenburg but another stylist Darren will staff the shop through the week.
Appointments are by drop in only, and Martell is looking forward to meeting the people of Lunenburg one haircut at a time.
