A doctor who played an instrumental part of setting up an echocardiography lab in the South Shore has been recognized.
Dr. Ronald Hatheway received the Canadian Medical Association’s Honorary Membership Award.
He was among nine physicians and a community group to be acknowledged during a ceremony in Halifax.
Hatheway also helped create heart health clinics which he believes helps keep people closer to home.
“There is clear evidence that you reduce hospital admissions and improve quality of life and, in fact, quantity of life with these specialized clinics.”
Hatheway calls the award a ”huge honour” after spending 30 years as a cardiologist in Bridgewater.
“It kind of came out of nowhere, I certainly wasn’t expecting it. But obviously, someone thought enough to nominate me for this and I thank my local colleagues.”
He worked seven years in general practice in B.C. before coming to Bridgewater.
The award was given to Hatheway for his service to patients and cardiology.
