The 2016 tax deadline is fast approaching.
The deadline has been extended to the end of business day today.
Self-employed people have until June 15.
Canada Revenue Agency Spokesperson Desmond Arsenault says people should try and get their taxes filed on time.
“If you do owe money there will be a five percent penalty for filing late in addition to one percent of the balance owing per month that you’re late.”
Arsenault says filing on time will avoid penalties and interruptions on things like goods and services tax credit or Canada child benefit.
He says they have help on their website.
“We have some great short videos that are informative and assist individuals in filing their return. And, we certainly have a list of certified software that you can use to help file your return electronically.”
Arsenault says 84 percent of people filed electronically last year.
