The mayor of Shelburne says she is disappointed to see the community newspaper merging with two others.
However, Karen Mattatall adds, it’s a sign of the times.
The Shelburne County Coast Guard is combining with newspapers in Yarmouth and Digby to become the Tri-County Vanguard.
Mattatall says she is optimistic the community identity will not be affected.
“They’ve ensured us, guaranteed us that we will have equal coverage with the other two counties, Yarmouth and Digby. We’ll see, I hope that’s the case.”
The Shelburne newspaper has been in publication for 119 years.
The first Tri-County Vanguard will hit shelves on Tuesday.
