A summer resident of Little Tancook Island says the wharf needs to be replaced. Blair Wheaton says the wharf hasn’t seen any upgrades in nearly 30 years and it’s an important peice of infrasturcture for the people living on the island. He’s says the federal government needs to step up. “A big reason why we pay taxes is to ensure essential services are maintained. We certainly haven’t waivered from paying our taxes over the past 28 years. However, when the rubber hits the road, it seems the government isn’t interested in responding.” Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan is meeting with residents today to talk about the wharf and the ferry serving the Tancook Islands. A number of municipal leaders and MLA’s are also on the island for the meeting.
