People living on Big and Little Tancook Islands in Mahone Bay want a new ferry to replace the current aging one. The “William G. Ernst” is more than 30 years old and recent federal government safety inspections have resulted in the vessel being allowed to only carry half as many passengers per trip. Those who use the ferry service daily say the passenger restrictions and recent breakdowns are troubling. They’ll be meeting next Wednesday over the noon hour on Big Tancook with provincial transportation officials to discuss the issue, ask questions and push for a new ferry.
