A Bridgewater woman says she never dreamed she would receive a diploma or attend university.
Jocelyne Boutilier struggled to balance her role as an ad hoc parent to five siblings as well as coping with two pregnancies of her own.
Now, she’s a graduate of Bridgewater’s Adult High School and this year’s recipient of the Nova Scotia Council of the Federation Literacy Award.
She says its an honour to be recognized for her efforts in overcoming the obstacles.
The award is presented annually to an adult learner who demonstrates outstanding achievements in literacy and makes a significant contribution to their school, workplace, or community.
Boutilier received the award during a presentation at Province House in Halifax today.
She is enrolled in the nursing program at Dalhousie University after accepting an entrance scholarship.
