A U-S federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration violated environmental laws when approving a federal permit for TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline project.
Judge Brian Morris of the US District Court of Montana has blocked any construction on the pipeline and also ordered the government to revise its environmental review.
Trump’s permit had allowed the $8 billion, 1900 kilometre pipeline, from Canada to Texas, to proceed.
In a Tweet, the Sierra Club calls the court decision “a significant setback for a pipeline that investors are already seriously questioning.”
“The Trump administration tried to force this dirty pipeline project on the American people, but they can’t ignore the threats it would pose to our clean water, our climate, and our communities.” #NoKXL https://t.co/tZAGwhq31K
