Preparations are ramping up for the World Junior Curling Championships.
The event is coming to Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool February 16-23.
It’s been ten years since the World Juniors were last in Canada (Victoria, BC).
Last night, organizers began handing out their first volunteer kits and are recruiting more.
Committee Chairman Greg Thorbourne says excitement for the championships is building in the community.
“Community engagement’s been great. You can’t go anywhere without someone saying they want to volunteer. Well, if I took every name of everybody who said that, my mind would be so full.”
Thorbourne says the numbers required are less than when they hosted the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2014.
“We’re looking for 150 volunteers for this one. That’s almost half of what we had in 2014.”
Thorbourne says the need is less with only one venue this time.

Thorburne says preparations are so far ahead, they are ready to go tomorrow.
