There could be a way to make health care service more accessible in the South Shore.
Natalie St-Pierre is from the Canadian Physician Assistants Association.
She says physician assistants would allow doctors to take on more patients.
“I think with the growth in the aging population,” she says, “and anticipated increase in demand, we’re going to need to evolve our healthcare model so that we can improve access to healthcare.”
St-Pierre says they can see patients, diagnose and write prescriptions.
However, physician assistants aren’t currently allowed to practice in Nova Scotia.
The Nova Scotia Health Authority says they want to make sure they are maximizing their current resources before making any additions.
