While it’s a welcome sight, today’s rain won’t make much of a difference for those with dry wells.
Municipal units in our region continue to offer supports to residents experiencing dry wells.
The Municipality of Yarmouth has several initiatives in place.
Warden Leland Anthony says they’ve received a few more applications for the Water Supply Upgrade Lending Program.
“It’s a very easy application. You can get a loan, up to $10,000 to help put in either a dug well or a drilled well. If there’s any cost above above $10,000, the home-owner is responsible for that.”
Residents of the Municipality of Yarmouth can get, when available, water tokens for residential use only.
The tokens, one per civic number per week, are free.
They’re available at the Town of Yarmouth office for 250-litre water fills-ups at the Lake George Road Water Tower.
Anthony says he’s talked with some seniors who have great ideas to conserve water.
“Taking a quick shower but not letting the water go down. They use that water to flush the toilets. They also buy their drinking water and just have some water to do dishes and so on.”
Anthony says the municipality encourages neighbours to look out for one another and assist each other whenever possible.
