A Lunenburg County man has been recognized for his work helping local children.
Steve Foran was given the Big Brothers Big Sisters Community Partnership Award at a ceremony last night.
Vanessa Mossop, Executive Director of the South Shore branch says nominating Foran was a no brainer.
“He does so much for us,” she says. “He has started our casino event, he’s been with our golf committee…for the last 15 years, and he’s also in our in school mentoring program.”
Mossop says they’re so excited Foran was chosen for the national award.
She adds without his dedication she’s not sure how many children might have fallen through the cracks.
Meanwhile,
Foran had no idea he would be recognized last night.
He says working with Big Brothers Big Sisters is part of what makes him who he is.
“It’s what makes me tick,” he says. “volunteering in a small community is what makes our community so special. Everybody has to give back a little bit.”
Foran says he’s humbled by the award.
But he says the hour he spends mentoring is rewarding enough on it’s own.
“When I can see one hour of my week–the difference you can make in a child’s life with one hour it’s mind-blowing, and you have to experience it to understand.”
He says he has no intention of letting the attention slow him down.
Next up is a casino fundraiser in November.
