Park View Education Centre’s first ever football team has officially launched.
Wednesday night marked the high school team’s inaugural practice.
Head coach Jamie Dearing says it’s a positive thing for Bridgewater and the players who have aged out of the Seahawks bantum team.
“I think it’s awesome for the community and the Seahawks have somewhere to go, that’s the whole point.”
Half of the players are Seahawks alumni and Dearing says recruitment exceeded his expectations – they needed around 25 students but now have 38.
“I was hoping for 30 just to have a padding but it just took off, word of mouth from all the kids and people were showing up at every practice trying to join,” says Dearing.
The Park View team is a division two team and is co-ed.
Dearing says there is one girl on the team for now and they’re open to having more.
The team can compete against teams from across the province including from Antigonish, Cole Harbour, the Valley and more.
