Kids can struggle trying to figure out what they will wear to school each day.
It may come as a surprise there are no dress codes in schools across Nova Scotia.
While some may remember rules for how long skirts and shorts have to be, Theresa Schroder with South Shore Regional School Board says the province’s code of conduct guides what is appropriate.
“We expect everyone will be respectful of themselves and each other. We want to be as inclusive as possible so we don’t have anything.”
Schroder says students know what is expected of them.
“They had talked to students at the beginning of the year about respecting themselves, respecting each other and just creating a very inclusive, respectful environment for everybody.”
Schroder says if someone feels there has either been a dress code violation or they’ve been unfairly accused of dressing inappropriately, it is up to the school principal to use their discretion to resolve the issue.
