It will be next spring before people can use the off-leash dog park in Bridgewater.
That’s a full year after the project was put on pause because soil used was found to be contaminated.
Mayor David Walker says it isn’t an ideal situation.
“Without a doubt it’s frustrating,” he says. “We’re disappointed that things happened that we wish hadn’t happened, but…I think we’re past that and I think everyone will be happy with the park when it opens.”
He says the town has learned some important lessons through this process.
“We’ve taken precautions so it won’t happen again. But, at the end of the day, I guess, it’s realizing that the best solution is if you have contaminated soil get rid of it.”
The bad soil has been removed and seeding is expected is set to begin soon.
The completed park project was expected to cost around $100,000.
A full financial breakdown is expected in the next few weeks.
